Hi all, I am planning a trip to France with an organisation for blind people, I have to go to Portsmouth in England to fly to France. The problem is I have never used the underground, I have to go threw London on the tube and I wondered if blind people can get help on the tube? My mum doesn't want me to do this. That's because she doesn't like tubes. But I cant see any reason why I cant but I stil need help on the tube just like I do with trains. I am traveling from Glasgow Central in Scotland.

Er, well, I'm from America, but there's no reason you can't take the Underground in London. I, and several other blind people I know, use the various subway systems in America (T in Boston, Metro in D.C., BART in San Francisco, and, of course, the New York Subway) all the time. I'm not sure how it works in London, but I'm willing to bet that transit workers would definitely be more than happy to help you out.

Well, firstly to say that yes you most certainly can use the London underground system. I'm a blind person and have been doing it with no difficulties for a number of years.

I tend to just turn up at the ticket gates and ask for assistance as I go and have never experienced any problems working that way, however if you prefer I believe that you can phone London Underground ahead of time and book assisted travel too. I'm afraid that I don't know the number as I've never done this but I'm sure some kindly soul could provide you with it. Failing that of course there is always the trusty directory inquiries.

The best of luck with your trip and have fun in France. Well, that is to say try and have fun in France. I know it won't be easy on account of all the French people.

Hopefully I will enjoy it. The trip is supposed to be relaxing and sun bathing. Therewill be two sandy beaches. We will be living in lugsury Mobile homes. I have another question, how do I get from one station to the underground?

Well, I'm not sure which station you'll arive into, it'll be either Euston or Kings Cross, but either way the underground station is attached to the main line station so you'll simply ask the staff member that meets you from the train to take you down to the underground and hand you over to the staff there.

Choccy if I was you I'd invest in some quality mobility training before you go anywhere,at your age you should be far more independent.

At 13 I was sneaking into the city on a regular basis unaccompanied.
